Traditionally organic fertilisers were based primarily upon animal derived ingredients. The ingredient lists of many commercially available products read like the contents of a slaughterhouse: - blood meal, meat and bone meal, feather meal, fish meal, hoof and horn meal and various animal manures. The increasing concerns associated with some of these materials e.g. BSE, Foot and Mouth, Salmonella and E.coli infections has lead Thomas & Fontaine Ltd to develop the Natural Gardening range of organic fertilisers based upon plant materials. All of these fertilisers are formulated to ensure maximum benefit not only to the plant but also to the soil. A fertile biologically active soil provides plants with enough nutrients for good growth. In addition a biologically active soil helps plants resist disease, insects and drought.
Natural Gardening Organic Fertilisers are formulated to provide nutrients throughout the growing season. Nitrogen is provided from a blend of rapeseed, soybean, sunflower and prairie meals. Each formulation containing different combinations to ensure maximum plant growth. Additional phosphate and potassium is provided from rock phosphate and mined sulphate of potash. Kelp meal, washed to reduce salt content, provides a source of trace elements and plant growth enhancers. Lignite is included to increase the soil cation exchange capacity and improve soil structure.
All-Purpose Fertiliser (N:P:K 5:5:5)
Specially developed to stimulate hardy root development and promote greater production of vegetables, fruit, salad crops and flowers. This formulation contains sunflower, rapeseed and soybean meal together with kelp meal, lignite, rock phosphate and mined sulphate of potash. This balanced fertiliser releases nutrients throughout the growing season. Apply 75-150 g/sq.m.
Tomato Fertiliser (N:P:K 5:4:8)
Based on the same ingredients as the All-Purpose fertiliser but formulated to provide the relatively high potash levels required by tomatoes, aubergines and peppers. Apply by mixing a small handful into the soil at transplanting and side dress when tomatoes begin to set fruit.
Spring Lawn Fertiliser (N:P:K 6:4:3)
This formulation provides higher levels of nitrogen to encourage leaf establishment and growth. This organic fertiliser prevents excessive top growth and encourages deep root development. This results in a healthy lawn throughout the summer without excessive grass growth. Apply 100-200 g/sq.m.
Autumn Lawn Fertiliser (N:P:K 4:4:6)
Prepare your lawn for the winter by using this special fertiliser formulation to increase root vigour. This gives a healthier lawn able to stand up to the rigours of frost and heavy rain. The natural slow release nitrogen present in the blend of prairie and rapeseed meals prevents too much lush growth during the winter but allows rapid green-up during the spring. Contains rapeseed and prairie meal, kelp meal, lignite, rock phosphate and mined sulphate of potash. Apply 100 g/sq.m.
Natural Gardening plant based organic fertilisers enhance microbial activity in soils. This leads to healthier more productive soils.
